Hoops Update

Over the past week the men's and women's basketball programs at Toledo have been pretty active. The men's team played at Cincinnati Wednesday night, and tonight will take on #2 Michigan State. The Lady Rockets earned victories against Cleveland State and Oakland, and will take on St Peter's this Saturday. Read on for more.   Full Story

Mick Cronin’s Cincinnati Bearcats will hope to have a stronger showing against the Toledo Rockets on Wednesday Night then they did against PVAM. Game time is 7:30 PM at Fifth Third Arena. The Rockets are 0-1 early in the season after dropping one Saturday night to Eastern Illinois 72-62.   Full Story

The Rocket men's basketball team and the Lady Rockets have both played their exhibition games and are ready to open their respective 2009-10 basketball seasons. The Lady Rockets open the season Friday night at Savage Arena, while the men open at home on Saturday evening.   Full Story

The University of Toledo men's basketball program is preparing the the 2009-10 campaign. This Friday, October 16th, is the first official day of practice for the Rockets, with the first exhibition game coming up on November 10th. The University of Toledo men's basketball program announced their 2009-10 schedule earlier today. The highlight of the home schedule is a game against SEC opponent Alabama at Savage Arena on January 4th. Road contests against Cincinnati and Michigan State are also on the schedule.   Full Story

Justin Anyijong is a 6-9, 205 pound center for the University of Toledo basketball team. Originally from East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan, Anyijong averaged 9.7 points and 6.4 rebounds last season for the Rockets. University of Toledo head men's basketball coach Gene Cross will hold several basketball camps this summer, including a "Little Dribblers" camp on Friday, July 3rd. Toledo’s Rockets ended their regular season in Savage Arena on the same note they opened their home campaign…with a win. The differences between that UMass game and this one against the NIU Huskies were dramatic however.   Full Story

The Toledo Basketball team dropped its final road contest of the season Wednesday night, a 59-44 loss to the Central Michigan Chippewas in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Tyrone Kent and Justin Anyijong led the Rockets with 14 points each in the loss. Toledo's final home game is Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.   Full Story

Freshman point guard Larry Bastfield found himself in the starting lineup for the first time of his collegiate career when the Rockets traveled to Western Michigan on January 14. Since then, the rookie has helped the Rockets more then double their wins in the past month and a half.   Full Story

Tyrone Kent, Mohamed Lo and Jonathan Amos all scored in double figures for the Toledo Rockets as the Midnight Blue and Gold edged the visiting WMU Broncos on Family Night at Savage Arena. Kent led Toledo with 21 points and five rebounds, while Lo added 18 points and Amos chipped in with 13.   Full Story

The Toledo Rockets basketball team fell to 5-23 on the season with a 58-49 loss to the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Wednesday night in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Rockets trailed 30-15 at the half, and, despite claiming a one point lead with 9:08 to go, fell to a 16-6 run in the final minutes.   Full Story

The Toledo Rockets came into the night a dismal 4-21 and were facing a West Division-leading Ball State squad that had just knocked off league-leading Buffalo at Buffalo. But Toledo has owned the Cardinals at Savage Arena, and their 71-67 victory was the 7th straight over Ball State on Toledo's home court.   Full Story

The Toledo Rockets are just 4-21 overall and 2-9 in the Mid-American Conference, and Wednesday evening they face the MAC West Division leading Ball State Cardinals at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. UT men’s basketball coach Gene Cross held his weekly press conference yesterday as the team reached the midway point of the MAC season. The sparsely-attended event (1 television, 1 newspaper, 2 internet media outlets) began with Cross discussing the loss of walk-on Manny Rodriguez to a dislocated kneecap.   Full Story

Toledo earned their first conference win of the season last night, in a 69-57 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Rockets led by 4 at halftime and by as many as 21 points in the 2nd half.   Full Story
