Michigan State's one-day camp brought about a host of activity in East Lansing. They had two recruits commit, and a number of others of interest come to campus. Scout.com was on hand. Here are a few initial notes.

Michigan State's recruiting class got a little boost from the state of Wisconsin today, as Milwaukee Marquette defensive tackle Mark Scarpinato and Kenosha Bradford defensive back Trae Waynes committed to the Spartans.

Both earned offers at the June camp, Scarpinato on the strength of his tough, high intensity play and impressive power and leverage, and Waynes blazing a 4.28 forty and showing man to man coverage ability in one-on-ones.

There were also a few hot prospects for the Spartans on hand, including four-star receiver DeAnthony Arnett, running back Melvin Gordon, defensive back Roger Williamson, and offensive tackle Kyle McAvoy, all of whom hold MSU offers. McAvoy did not work out, but brother Luke did.

Spartan commits who worked out included Lawrence Thomas, who ran a 4.63 forty, Joel Heath, who ran a 4.69 and had a great day, and linebacker Taiwan Jones. Running back Onaje Miller was present, but did not work out.

The Spartans also hosted a number of prospects looking for offers. Among those who impressed us were Traverse City St. Francis center Kyle Lints, Muskegon defensive end Damon Knox, Richland Gull Lake's Takudzwa Kubvoruno, and Orchard Lake St. Mary's receiver Allen Robinson.

Robinson is one to watch for Spartan fans, saying, "They said that they like me and they're going to look at the film and we will go from there."

The receiver group was strong, and other than Arnett and Robinson, featured Kenny Knight, Ashton Gaines, Kendrick Roberts, Kishon Wilcher, and Kyle Foster, all of whom hold college offers. The defensive backs were also strong, and other than Williamson, included Ryan Griffin, Arjen Colquhoun, and others.

Of course, there was some underclassman talent as well. Akron Buchtel wide receiver Corey Smith, Detroit Catholic Central's Matt Godin, and Cass Tech's trio of Terry Richardson, Royce Jenkins-Stone, and Laron Taylor were among the young standouts.

"They are looking at me and lot and they want to recruit me a lot heavier," said Richardson, a speedy covery corner who holds a verbal offer from Iowa.

Jenkins-Stone, a physical linebacker said, "They said keep working and I should have an offer from them."

Over the next few days, Spartan Digest and Scout.com will have in-depth notes, photos, and interviews with players who were at the camp.
