Top Prospects Considering Toledo

Top Prospects Considering Toledo

With National Signing Day just a few days away, two highly regarded prospects have Toledo in their final two. Will they choose Toledo? When will they make their decisions? Read on for more information on these two Top 40 Ohio High School prospects.

We are down to the final days before high school seniors can sign national letters of intent to play football in college. The Toledo Rockets have an impressive list of commitments heading to signing day, and that list could get even more impressive before signing day.

Two propects that are rated in the Top 40 players in the state of Ohio have Toledo in their top two.

Three star DE/LB Jayrone Elliott is rated the #33 player in the state of Ohio by Scout.com. Elliott received offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Syracuse, Toledo, UCONN, and West Virginia at some point during his recruitment. For different reasons, some of those schools dropped off his radar over time, and some of them were weeded out by Elliott himself.

On Monday Elliott revealed that he was down to Toledo and Bowling Green. "I feel basically the same about both schools, and they're only 15 minutes apart," Elliott told Scout.com recruiting analyst Bill Greene on Tuesday afternoon.

Eliott has stated that he has a lot of friends playing at Toledo, and he noted that Toledo has a large recruiting class coming in. "I think I could be a part of something big if I would go there," Elliott said.

Elliott is a 6-3 and 215 pounder that projects as a defensive end in college. He has been invited to play in both the Ohio North/South All-Star game and the Big 33 All-Star game. He is expected to make his college decision on Friday.

The other top prospect considering Toledo is Erick Howard. Howard, 5-10 and 210 pounds, is a four star running back. He is rated the 24th best running back prospect in the country and the #14 overall prospect in the state of Ohio by Scout.com. He has been named Mr. Football in the state of Ohio for both his junior and senior years. Only one other person holds the honor of being a two-time Mr. Football in the state of Ohio, since the award was first given out in 1987.

This past fall he rushed for 2,056 yards and 27 touchdowns. As a junior in 2008, Erick rushed for 2,387 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Howard picked up offers from Akron, Cincinnati, Colorado, Illinois, Kent State, and Toledo. Over the course of time he dwindled his list to Toledo and Akron.

Howard visited Toledo a couple of weekends ago and said that he really liked the campus and the atmosphere. His player host on the visit to Toledo was Morgan Williams, a former Division I Player of the Year in the state of Ohio and a soon to be junior running back for the Rockets.

Howard is planning on making his college choice by sometime this weekend.
