Church Named to Thorpe Award Watch List

Senior safety Barry Church was named to the watch list for the 2009 Thorpe Award earlier this afternoon. The Thorpe Award is presented annually to the nations top defensive back. Church has been an All-MAC selection each of his three years in Toledo.

The University of Toledo announced today that senior strong safety Barry Church has been named to the watch list for the 2009 Thorpe Award. Church was also named to the watch list in 2008 following hsi second straight first team All-MAC performance.

Church has tallied 256 tackles and intercepted eight passes during his time in Toledo, good enough to be in position to become the Rockets second ever four-year first team All-Mac selection.
