2010 LB Visits Toledo

The University of Toledo football program hosted a few prospects this past weekend for unofficial visits and tours of campus. A couple of days ago we reported on 2011 tight end prospect Darien Bryant's visit last Thursday. Today we have a report on a very important 2010 linebacker prospect that was on campus on Friday.

The University of Toledo hosted a very important linebacker prospect in the 2010 class on Friday when Cleveland St. Ignatius standout Jake Ryan came to town. Ryan is a 6-3, 220 pound linebacker with 4.57 speed. He has offers from Toledo, Bowling Green, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan.

Ryan, who is high on Toledo's recruiting board, is being recruited to Toledo by assistant coach and co-defensive coordinator Mike Ward. Rocket Digest caught up with Ryan last night to get an update on his recruitment and to see how the visit went last Friday.

"It's a real nice campus," Jake said in a phone interview with Rocket Digest. He added, "It's not like you would expect, with being in a city. It's really seperated from the city atmosphere."

Ryan took a tour of the campus and got to see all the facilities and the plans for renovated and expanded facilities that are either already underway or will be shortly.

"I liked all of their facilities," said Ryan. "I got to see the renovations and new facilities they are adding and they are really impressive."

After talking about the visit, Jake talked about what he has been working on this summer as he prepares for his senior season of high school football. "I've been working on getting faster and working on my strength," said Ryan. He added, "I've also been watching film more than in the past."

One think Jake mentioned that he has been working on is his speed, and he is already seeing the benefits. He has lowered his forty time from 4.60 to 4.57 over the summer. He is also staying dedicated in the weight room and can now bench 300 pounds. In the classroom, Jake holds a 2.4 cumulative GPA.

In terms of a decision on a college, right now Ryan is playing the waiting game. He wants to concentrate on his senior season first and is expecting to wait until after the season is over before making a commitment anywhere.

Rocket Digest will keep you updated on Jake's senior season at St. Ignatius High School and his status as one of the top prospects on Toledo's recruiting board.
