Toledo has one of the best running back tandems in the country in DaJuane Collins and Morgan Williams. Collins is entering his senior season at Toledo this fall, which means the staff is looking for the next great back to replace him. The Rockets have offers out to some impressive backs, including one from the state of Ohio with 14 offers. Read on for more.
Tyson Gulley
is a 5-9, 175 pound running back from Garfield High School in Akron, OH. Last season he rushed for 1,376 yards and 18 touchdowns on just 173 carries, while also accounting for over 1,900 all-purpose yards. That, along with 4.41 speed, has garnered Gulley a lot of interest from Division I schools.
"I've got offers from all of the MAC schools except
Temple
and
Buffalo
," Gulley told Rocket Digest in a phone interview last night. He continued, "I've also got offers from Kansas,
Syracuse
, and
Marshall
." Besides the offers, Gulley is also hearing from
Ohio State
,
Michigan State
, and
Cincinnati
.
Toledo
assistant coach Jason Candle is recruiting Gulley for the Rockets. Toledo and the other MAC schools, plus Marshall, are looking at him as a running back, while the BCS schools are recruiting him as a defensive back.
Tyson visited Toledo for a junior day this spring. "I liked the campus and the coaches were really down to Earth. I liked everything about it. The Glass Bowl was amazing. We got to sit up on the tower side and watch the team practice."
When asked about favorites, Gulley replied that he did not have any favorites and was not in a hurry to dwindle his list down. In fact, he said that he probably would not be making a decision on a commitment until after his season is over this fall.
In the classroom, Tyson is a solid student with a 2.5 core GPA. In the weight room he is very dedicated. Despite being a small guy at just 175 pounds, Gulley can bench press 285 pounds. He also squats 300 pounds.
Rocket Digest will continue to bring you the latest on Tyson Gulley and other Toledo Rocket football prospects as the summer continues.
