has not even entered his junior year of high school yet, but he already has the attention of Division I college coaches. The 6-2, 215 pound quarterback at Stephen T Badin High School in Hamilton, OH went to camps at
Cincinnati
and
Toledo
and walked away from both camps with offers.
A school cannot give Coyne an official scholarship offer in writing until he enters his junior year of high school in the fall, but both Cincinnati and Toledo told him he will be getting the offer once school starts.
After the camp in Toledo, Patrick spent time going around UT's campus with Rocket head coach Tim Beckman. "It was really great," Coyne said about the campus. He continued, "he (Coach Beckman) took me on a golf cart around campus and explained all of the renovations they are doing. It is cool that you can stay in a 2 room, 3 room, or 4 room apartment right away your freshman year. The dorm is right by the stadium and everything is within walking distance. It really feels like home."
Coyne runs a spread offense at Badin High School, one similar to what Toledo will run with the new coaching staff. "We run the exact same spread that Toledo does with four and five wideouts," said Coyne. He also runs a 4.7 forty yard dash, giving him the ability to run the QB draw and option plays.
Along with attending a couple of camps this summer to get some exposure, Coyne has used this summer to work on a few things for the upcoming football season. "I've been working on my footwork and arm strength. My arm strength is already pretty good, but there is always room to get better. I'm also working on my accuracy and just focusing on winning a state championship. Winning a state championship is more important right now than recruiting even is for me."
If Coyne has a successful junior season, recruiting is going to become a bigger part of his life as the season goes on. Though he doesn't have many plans regarding his recruitment, Coyne did say that he definitely plans on attending a football game at Toledo this fall.
Stay tuned to Rocket Digest this fall as we keep you updated on Patrick Coyne's junior season at Badin High School and his status as a 2011 Toledo Rocket football prospect.
