Point guard Clayton Sterling has committed to the University of Toledo's men's basketball program for the 2008-09 season.

Point guard Clayton Sterling has committed to the University of Toledo's men's basketball program for the 2008-09 season.

Clayton is a 6-1 and 175 pound guard from Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. He chose Toledo, the only school that offered him, but received interest from about 15 Division I basketball programs. He also took an official visit to the University of Houston back in June.

At one point it appeared that Clayton may attend a prep school in 2008, but the need for a point guard in this class lured Rocket head basketball coach Gene Cross to Brooklyn to recruit Sterling. He visited Toledo's campus this week and committed yesterday.

Clayton averaged 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game as a senior last year at Boys and Girls High School. He was selected to the All Star game at the Eastern Invitational camp this summer.
