Since going to a spread offense in 2001, tight end has been a very important position on the Toledo Rockets football team. Guys like Andrew Clarke, Chris Holmes, and Chris Hopkins have left their mark on the University of Toledo football program.

Brian Slack is a tight end at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, OH. Will he be among the above list of great Rocket tight ends someday?

Rocket assistant coach Vince Marrow, another former Rocket tight end that also played in the NFL, has been recruiting Brian Slack to the Toledo Rockets football program. And Marrow has been impressed enough with Slack to offer him a football scholarship to Toledo.

Right now Brian has offers from Toledo, Miami University, Eastern Michigan, and Ohio University. Brian also told Rocket Digest that he has been hearing from schools such as "Ohio State, Pitt, Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and NC State."

Brian has not visited Toledo's campus yet, but he plans on doing so this summer. "I probably won't make it to a camp, but I want to get up there to see the campus and meet the other coaches," Brian Slack told Rocket Digest.

Brian has already met Coach Marrow and Head Football Coach Tom Amstutz. "I am very impressed with Coach Marrow, and Coach Amstutz has a great reputation as a good person and a winning coach," said Slack. "I think they are very knowledgeable about football and know what it takes to win."

Rocket Digest ask Brian what his impressions were of the football program at Toledo.

"Living in the Akron area I am very familiar with the MAC and Toledo's winning tradition," said Slack. He added, "Toledo definitely plays for championships."

Brian will be a senior at Archbishop Hoban this fall. He caught 25 passes for 320 yards as a junior in 2007. The tight end also runs a respectable 4.8 forty.

Brian told Rocket Digest that he is very competitive and he feels that is one of his best assets, along with his ability to get open, catch the ball, and block effectively.

Brian is also a very good student with a 3.1 GPA. This fall will be a busy time for him as he tries to balance his studies, football season, and his recruitment. He plans to visit Toledo for one of their home football games this fall, and most likely will make an official visit to UT.

While he says he doesn't have any favorites yet, Toledo appears to be on his list. "I do like how Toledo uses their tight ends," said Slack. "That will be one of the factors in my decision."
