Offensive lineman John Greco was selected by the St Louis Rams in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft earlier today. Also drafted today was running back Jalen Parmele. Parmele was a 6th round selection by the Miami Dolphins.
Offensive lineman
John Greco
was selected by the
St. Louis Rams
in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft earlier today. As the 65th overall selection, the former four-year starter on the Rocket offensive line became the highest draft pick from
Toledo
since Dan Williams was taken 11th overall in the first round of the 1993 draft by the
Denver Broncos
.
Greco was a three-time, 1st Team All-MAC selection as well as a 3rd Team All-America selection by Phil Steele Magazine and Rivals.com as a senior for the Rockets in 2007.
Greco started in 49 straight games for the Rockets, every single game Toledo played in the last four years.
Many scouts compared him to former Rocket offensive lineman
Nick Kaczur
, who was drafted by the
New England Patriots
in the 3rd round (100th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.
Former Rocket running back
Jalen Parmele
was also selected in the NFL Draft today. He was taken by the
Miami Dolphins
in the 6th round of the draft, 176th overall pick.
Parmele's stock improved after running a sub 4.4 forty at the NFL Combine earlier this year. Parmele ran for 1,511 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Rockets in 2007. He also had 17 receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown.
Jalen Parmele was a 1st Team All-MAC selection in 2006 and 2007.
The last Rocket running back selected in the NFL Draft was
Chester Taylor
, taken in the 6th round (207th overall) by the
Baltimore Ravens
. Taylor is now a NFL starting running back with a multi-million dollar contract with the
Minnesota Vikings
.
The only two Rockets drafted higher than Jalen Parmele since Dan Williams in the 1993 draft are OL John Greco and OL Nick Kaczur.
The NFL draft is currently still in the 6th round. The draft consists of seven rounds.
Congratulations to both John Greco and Jalen Parmele and good luck in the NFL.
