UT to Name New Men's Basketball Coach

The Univeristy of Toledo and UT Athletic Director Mike O'Brien have scheduled a news conference for 2:00pm today to introduce the new men's basketball head coach. Rocket Digest has learned from anonymous sources that the new coach will be Gene Cross.

The Univeristy of Toledo and UT Athletic Director Mike O'Brien have scheduled a news conference for 2:00pm today to introduce the new men's basketball head coach.

Rocket Digest has learned from anonymous sources that Notre Dame assistant coach Gene Cross will be introduced as the new men's head basketball coach at Toledo at the 2pm news conference.

Cross graduated from Illinois in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in history. He also received a Master's degree in sports management from Ohio State in 1996. He lettered at Illinois twice and helped the Illini earn two NCAA Tournament appearances in his time there, in 1993 and 1994.

He began his coaching career at Marion Franklin High School in Columbus, OH as the boys freshman team coach.

Over the years he worked his way up and gained a reputation as a tireless recruiter. Gene was also named one of the top 25 recruiters in college basketball in 2005 by Rivals.com.

Gene has spent time as a coach at the University of Illinois-Chicago, DePaul, Virginia, and Notre Dame. He spent the last two seasons at Notre Dame.
