Once a West Virginia commit, safety Jermaine Robinson is now committed to the University of Toledo and expected to sign a LOI with the Rockets on Wednesday. Robinson brings great athletic ability to a Rocket secondary that needs to improve in 2008.
Pittsburgh, PA has been a friendly place for the University of
Toledo
over the years. One of the greatest quarterbacks to wear the Midnight Blue and Gold,
Bruce Gradkowski
, was from Pittsburgh. So was free safety
Patrick Body
and cornerback
Brandon Hefflin
.
Current Rocket defenders
Tyrrell Herbert
,
Barry Church
, and
Archie Donald
are all from Penn Hills SHS in Pittsburgh.
The city of Pittsburgh looks to be sending another great defender to the way of the Rockets in Brashear High School's
Jermaine Robinson
.
Robinson is one of the best safety prospects in the 2008 national recruiting class.
The 6-3 and 180 pounder earned the following honors in 2007 by the Pittsburgh Courier Online. All City Offensive Player of the Year, All City 1st Team Offense as a quarterback, and All City 1st Team Defense as a defensive back.
Robinson was also named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette City Leaue Player of the Year as a quarterback and defensive back.
On a state level, Robinson was named 1st Team Pennsylvania Class AAAA All-State as a defensive back.
The Pittsburgh native threw for over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior in 2006, while recording 85 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 4 interceptions.
As a senior in 2007 he threw for 1,527 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran for 480 yards as Brashear High School's quarterback.
Jermaine originally committed to
West Virginia
in March of 2007, but continued to look around. He took unofficial visits to
Colorado
and UCONN in the fall.
Jermaine remained committed to West Virginia despite setting up official visits to Toledo, West Virginia,
Iowa
, and
Michigan State
.
After visiting Toledo's campus, he decided to switch his commitment to the Toledo Rockets.
Jermaine was recruited to the Rockets by assistant coach Andy Boyd.
