The Bulls (6-12, 0-6) went ahead early while
Sean Smiley
was raining 3-pointers. Sean finished with 21 points making 5 of his 11 3-pt attempts. Also scoring in double figures for the Bulls were
Andy Robinson
with 14 and
Calvin Betts
with 12.
Toledo played an explosive first half. Jonathon Amos had a huge dunk with 11:01 to play in the first to get the crowd pumped. Toledo went into the half up 32-25.
Fireworks were going off in Savage Hall at halftime as Toledo hosted “The Extreme Team” for the halftime entertainment. They featured high flying dunks propelled by 2 small trampolines at the free throw line.
The Rockets came out strong in the second half and went on an 8-0 run capped by another huge Amos dunk. Toledo had their biggest lead of the night then at 40-25 with 16:23 to go.
Jonathan Amos
had a huge night with a double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds. Amos shot 8 for 13, including 3 huge shots down the stretch when the Bulls were coming back. He is also the MAC leader in steals and added three tonight.
The refs had no problems blowing their whistles in the game. 50 fouls were called, 35 of which were called in what seemed to be a never ending second half. Toledo went to the line for 45 shots, making 29 of them (64.4%).
The bulls came rumbling back to tie the game at 55-55 with 5:48 left. Then 10 of the Rockets next 14 points came from Tyrone Kent’s free throws and the Rockets pulled away to win 76-63.
Senior
Jerrah Young
added 10 points and two blocked shots for the Rockets.
Official attendance was 6,287. That is the highest for the Rockets at home this season. After playing at
Akron
Wednesday night, Toledo hosts a huge double header next Saturday with a special noon starting time against Kent St (15-4, 4-1) instead of the originally scheduled 7:00pm starting time. Stick around after the mens games to see the ladies take on rival
Bowling Green
at 2:30.
