Toledo Announces $250,000 Donation

The University of Toledo announced today that Charlie and Nancy Creech have given the University a $250,000 gift to the Building Champions Campaign. A portion of that gift is to be used to help build a new weight room in the UT Athletics Complex to be built alongside of Savage Hall.

"Charlie and Nancy Creech are great friends of UT and longtime supporters of our athletic teams," UT Athletic Director Mike O’Brien was quoted as saying on www.utrockets.com. He added, "their incredibly generous gift will have a big impact on our program. The new weight room will be a tremendous boost for our student-athletes, and help them in their quest for athletic excellence . We are very grateful for Charlie and Nancy’s support of this important piece of the capital campaign."

Charlie Creech graduated from the University of Toledo in 1965 with a degree in Engineering. He played on the freshman basketball team during the 1959-60 season.

Nancy Creech graduated from the University of Toledo School of Education in 1972. She was a cheerleader during the Rockets infamous 35-0 winning streak from 1969-71. The Creeches are Rocket Fund donors, season ticket holders, and Downtown Coaches Association members.

UT Director of Athletics, Mike O'Brien, said that the weight room will be 6,000 square feet and will be located in the new UT Athletics Complex that is already under construction. The weight room will feature all of the latest weight training and conditioning equipment in a modern, glass wall setting.

The $250,000 donation from the Creeches comes just over a month after the Univeristy of Toledo announced a $1 Million gift from Hal and Susan Fetterman. That gift was earmarked for the construction of an indoor practice facilty that will be used by the football team and other athletic teams at Toledo.

The UT Athletics Complex and a renovated Savage Hall will be completed and open in time for the 2008-09 basketball season. The indoor practice facility is expected to be completed in time for the 2009 football season.
