The University of Toledo men's basketball team had a very challenging non-conference slate. So far that schedule has paid off in conference play as the Rockets take their 1-0 MAC record into Dekalb, IL today to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies. | |||

There has been much talk about the University of Toledo's non-conference men's basketball schedule this year. Regarded as one of the toughest in the country by many computer rankings and experts, the Rockets managed just a 3-9 record. However, that tough schedule may have paid off in conference play. Toledo opened the MAC schedule last week with a victory over Ball State. Now the Rockets take that 1-0 MAC record into Dekalb, IL to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00pm ET. Northern Illinois is 3-10 overall and 0-1 in the MAC. They lost to Western Michigan 86-69 in their MAC opener. Freshman guard Michael Patton led the Huskies with 20 points in the game. Stan Joplin and the Rockets are hoping that junior guard Anthony Byrd continues to play well for the Rockets. The former walk-on transfer picked up a scholarship for the Spring semester and will be counted on for valuable minutes at point guard. Toledo is led by senior Jerrah Young and juniors Ty Kent, Ridley Johnson, and Jonathon Amos. The Rockets will return home to Savage Hall on Wednesday, January 16th. The Rockets will host MAC West foe Central Michigan in that game. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm. |
