Offensive lineman Blaine Schafer took an extended weekend trip to Northwest Ohio this past weekend. With no classes at Plymouth High School the last couple of days, Schafer was able to fit two official visits in this weekend. He started at Bowling Green for his official visit with the Falcons on Friday night. Sunday afternoon he made the drive up I-75 to the University of Toledo, before returning home on Monday afternoon. This evening Blaine took a break from his busy schedule to talk to Rocket Digest about his visits, and where things stand in his recruitment. First, the trip to Bowling Green: Blaine's host at Bowling Green was sophomore offensive lineman Shane Steffy. "Saturday morning I had breakfast with some academic people," said Blaine. "We toured the campus and facilities, and got to watch them practice for the bowl," he added. Blaine was happy with the visit to Bowling Green, and he had breakfast with BG head coach Greg Brandon before leaving on Sunday. "Bowling Green was great. I think I really fit in there," said Blaine. Next, the trip to Toledo: Blaine's host at Toledo was freshman offensive lineman Kevin Kowalski. Blaine said, "I met with some college of business and education academic people, because that is what I am interested in pursuing." After that he got to tour the athletic facilities and the UT campus. Later he made a trip to Coach Amstutz' house. "We went to Coach Amstutz' house and I got to play pool with him," Blaine said. "I had dinner with him and coach Downing, and things went really good." Blaine had one more visit with the coaching staff at Toledo on Monday morning before making his way back home. Blaine did have nice things to say about the Toledo visit. Said Schafer, "it went really good. It was just as good as the visit to Bowling Green. I really liked the campus and the coaches." As of right now Blaine has visited Western Michigan (December 1st), Bowling Green, and Toledo. He was also hoping to visit Ball State, but now isn't so sure it will happen. "They haven't called me back to set it up," said Blaine. He added, "I'm not going to force the issue with them, because I am pretty happy with the three that I have visited." Whether Blaine takes that official visit to Ball State or not, he has already started the process of deciding on one of the four schools. "I am now thinking things over and hope to make a decision within a couple of weeks," said Blaine. "I really can't say that one school is ahead of the others right now," he concluded. Stay tuned to Rocket Digest over the next couple of weeks as we keep you updated on Blaine Schafer's recruitment. |
