Isaiah Ballard Commitment

Local standout Isaiah Ballard committed to Toledo last weekend while on his official visit. The Rogers High School star had an outstanding senior season with 90 tackles, 6 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions. He was also named Toledo City League Co-Player of the Year in 2007.

This past weekend the Rockets picked up a commitment from local standout Isaiah Ballard. Ballard played running back, linebacker, and safety for Rogers this past season. he was named the Toledo City League's Co-Player of the Year and first-team All-Ohio on defense.

Ballard had 90 tackles, forced six fumbles while recovering two of them, and had two interceptions in 2007. "He's a tremendous kid," said Rogers head football coach Rick Rios. "He's probably the best all-around player we've ever had in my time here. We've had players here that were better at one position like Fred Davis, but he (Ballard) is the best all-around player we've had," coach Rios added.

According to Isaiah's high school coach, Rick Rios, he had offers from most of the MAC. "Isaiah had offers from nearly all of the MAC, but had narrowed his choices down to Toledo, Akron, Eastern Michigan, and Ball State," said coach Rios.

Ballard took his official visit to Toledo this past weekend, and that is when he decided to commit to Toledo. "He made his decision while on the visit," Rios said. UT assistant coach Andy Boyd recruited Isaiah Ballard and was on campus for his visit.

Ballard is expected to play safety for Toledo, and possibly return kickoffs and punts. He will join his former teammate in the backfield for Toledo. Myshan Pettis started at cornerback for Toledo as a true freshman walk-on in 2007. Before that, Pettis starred in the backfield at Rogers for coach Rios.
