Kearney Settles Into Recruiting Process

The Toledo Rockets are looking for one quarterback for the recruiting class of 2008. One target that has emerged as one of the top level targets is Pa., quarterback Nolan Kearney. Rocket Digest caught up with Kearney last night to get the latest on his recruitment and where the Toledo Rockets stand.
Nolan Kearney
received a surprise visitor while at school last week. With the Rockets season ending early than expected, coaches have used the free time as a chance to hit the recruiting trail, and hit it hard.
Kearney was the recipient of one of those unexpected visits.
A 6-foot-2, 230-pound dual-threat quarterback from Downington, Pa., Kearney has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the region. During his final run through the high school ranks, Kearney led his team to a 10-2 record with just over 2,200 yards passing and 21 scores. He also added five more scores on 555 yards rushing.
"I'd say that I play kind of like Tyler Palko at Pitt last season," Kearney said when asked about how he plays the game. "We're both left-handed, we're both confident, and we both know how to stand tall in the pocket and take a hit to make a big play."
One who agreed with that is
Toledo
Rockets offensive line coach Stanley Clayton. In viewing the quarterbacks film Clayton came away satisfied enough to provide the prospective Rockets quarterback with a positive reference.
"Coach Clayton really liked my film," Kearney continued on his conversations with the Toledo coaching staff.
"He's going to pass it along to the quarterbacks coach for me and hopefully they come through with an offer. He said he was really impressed with my arm strength. He loved my film and really wanted to get this one on a roll."
Should the Rockets become the first school to throw a scholarship offer to the QB, the academic opportunities in the Glass City will prove pivotal in UT's recruitment of the Keystone prep football star.
"I'll definitely look at academics," Kearney continued. "It'll depend on where I go to school, but I want to major in either business or political science."
Kearney has his first scheduled official visit to William & Mary this weekend. No other official visits have been scheduled at this time.
