Q&A with Rocket Recruit Jon Sharp

With a defense that has struggled through much of the 2007 season, it's no question that Toledo would like to add depth to its defense in the class of 2008. One player who has emerged with an offer is linebacker Jon Sharp. Rocket Digest caught up with Sharp to see where the Rockets sit in his recruitment.

Jon Sharp is one of the top talents in the state of Pennsylvania. With the need to pull in linebackers in the class of 2008, Sharp received an offer from the Toledo Rockets early in the process. Rocket Digest caught up with Sharp last week to feel out where he sits in the recruiting process.

RD:What is your current height and weight right now?
Jon Sharp: Currently I am at 6-foot-3, 227-pounds.

RD:How did your team do this year? How about yourself? What were your stats?
Jon Sharp: Well our team lost in the first round of playoffs to Pittsburgh Central Catholic. I did pretty well this year having probably around 90 tackles - 15 for a loss, 4 sacks on defense while on offense having 12 catches, 3 TD's and 200 yards.

RD: Do you participate in other sports in high school?
Jon Sharp: I play basketball and run track. I do the 100, 200 and 400.

RD: What schools have offered you so far? Are there any other schools you're interested in?
Jon Sharp: I have offers from Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Army, and Temple right now, and I am interested in all those plus Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Boston College, Akron and Syracuse.

RD: Who is your recruiter for Toledo and how do they see you fitting into their system?
Jon Sharp: Well I talk with Coach Boyd (Andy Boyd-Outside LB Coach). He usually talks to me once a week and we have a pretty good relationship. They are looking at me for an outside LB.

RD: You visted Toledo for the Purdue game, what did you think of the campus and have you visited any other colleges yet?
Jon Sharp: Well I went to Toledo in the summer as well and got to meet some professors, defensive coordinators, S&C coach and just kind of walked around campus. I haven't had time to visit any other colleges, but since my season is over now I can visit more schools now.

RD: Do you talk with any of your buddies about possible going to the same school?
Jon Sharp: Yea, I have two guys that I talk with. I talk to Marvase Byrd about Akron and Kurtis Rassan about Toledo. Both talk to me about possible going to the same school. Kurtis who is from Clairton committed to Toledo and keeps telling me I should come.

RD: How is school going for you?
Jon Sharp: I just got my report card and I have a 3.4 grade average right now.
