Hoops Teams Win Doubleheader

The Toledo men's basketball team won their exhibition game over Ashland by a score of 75-70, while the Lady Rockets won their 2nd exhibition game with a 65-61 victory over Ashland.
The men's hoops team opened the season today with an exhibition victory over Ashland, by a score of 75-70. All five Rocket starters scored in double figures.
Senior forward
Jerrah Young
and junior guards Ty Kent and
Ridley Johnson
each scored 15 points for the Rockets. Junior guard Jonathon Amos had 11 points and true freshman center
Justin Anyijong
had 10 points for
Toledo
.
Toledo trailed Ashland 33-29 at halftime. The Rockets took the lead for good with 3:18 left in the 2nd half when Ridley Johnson sinked both free throws to make it 65-63 Toledo. Toledo opens the regular season on Saturday at Savage Hall against Missouri State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm, following the women's opener against IPFW.
The Lady Rockets defeated the Ashland women's team 65-61 behind 15 points from
Allie Clifton
and 13 points from
Tamesha Scotton
. The Lady Rockets led 39-28 at halftime, but Ashland went on a 22-9 mid-way through the 2nd half to take a 2 point lead.
Then Allie Clifton took over and the Lady Rockets took the lead for good with about 8:00 left in the game. The Lady Rockets will open the regular season on Saturday against IPFW at Savage Hall with a 4:30pm tip-off.
Women's Soccer Advances
The women's soccer team defended their #2 seed by beating Kent State 4-3 in the opening round of the MAC Tournament. Sophomore Molly Cornwell scored three goals for the Rockets. Toledo will play #3 seed Northern Illinois in the semifinals. Toledo beat Northern Illinois 4-1 in their only meeting this year. Last season Toledo beat Northern Illinois in the finals to win the MAC Championship. #1 seeded Ball State will host #4 seeded Bowling Green in the other semifinal.
