With the defense raising many questions in the early season, Rocket Recruiting Roundup takes a look at current linebacker prospects for the Midnight Blue and Gold.

In what has most undoubtedly been an unforgiving start for the 0-3 Toledo Rockets, questions have sprung up everywhere on the field. Most questions have been re-directed towards the defensive side of the ball. When you give up 149 points over the course of 3 games for an average of 39.7 points per game, the questions will obviously be there.

In today's edition of Rocket Recruiting Roundup, we take a look at linebacker targets for the Midnight Blue and Gold.

First we start with Kurtis Rassan, a weakside linebacker and Toledo's first 2008 verbal commitment, from Clairton, PA. Rassan comes in at 6'1" 195 pounds with 4.5 speed. This will give the Rockets much needed speed in the open field for pass coverage, as well as containment of the run and possible QB options. He committed to Toledo over offers from Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State.

Jon Sharp, who currently holds offers from Toledo, Temple, Army, and Eastern Michigan, has the Rockets out in front in the race for his signature. A 6'3" 215 SLB with 4.55 speed would compliment Rassan on the other side of the linebacking core. He was in town for the Purdue game, and plans on being back for an official visit.

Dwayne Beckford, from Irvington, NJ is another LB with a Rocket offer. He also has an impressive list of offers from Connecticut, Michigan State, Purdue, Syracuse, Temple, and East Carolina. He's another OLB, with a ton of speed and the true build of a LB weighing in at 209 and standing at 6 feet exactly. Toledo has made in-roads in the Garden State with current players such as DuJuane Collins, Sam Azner, and Adonis Thomas.

The last player we look at with an offer who is currently un-committed is Dawan Nolton. He's a teammate of Dwayne Beckford in Irvington, NJ. He holds offers from Toledo, Temple, and Pittsburgh. At this point, Pitt appears to be in the lead for his services, but time will tell. Another OLB, who stands at 5'11" and 192 may not have the size for a while to get directly on the field. His 4.7 speed also leaves something to be desired for his position on the field.

At this point in time, the main linebacker targets are mainly on the outside. It appears that the Rockets best chances are in line with Jon Sharp. Of course, there is still about 5 months left until signing day, so more prospects may be weeded out in the coming months.
