--Coach Ken Whisenhunt spent the week in Florida, but it had nothing to do with Peyton Manning returning to Miami to contemplate his future. Whisenhunt was in the state for the NFL's competition committee meetings.
--If the Cardinals do sign Peyton Manning, he won't have to fight to wear No. 18. Receiver
Stephen Williams
, who has the number now, said he would gladly give it up. He even offered to throw in a set of shoulder pads if it would help.
--Former Cardinals quarterback
Kurt Warner
thinks Ken Whisenhunt is one of the few coaches flexible enough to change his offense to accommodate Peyton Manning.
"I think it's very rare," Warner said. "People get to a certain place or certain level because they do things their way. It's tough to put that aside and go, 'OK, I'm willing to put my job on the line for somebody else's stuff.'"
--The Cardinals are saying nothing about their interest in Manning. General manager Rod Graves and coach Ken Whisenhunt have declined comment through the team's media relations department. They are standing by their comments made at the Combine. Without naming Manning, they said then they are interested in acquiring any player who would help the team improve.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "The big thing with coach Whiz is he wants to have success. He's willing to give you a little bit of room, see how it plays out, then if you are successful, he gives you more room. The whole time it was us working together and fine tuning." -- Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner on working with coach Ken Whisenhunt.
